ELECTROMAGNETIC
PREMIUM EDUCATION PROGRAM
Designed to share cutting-edge technology, accelerate discovery, and cultivate a collaborative photonics community.
Overview
At Flexcompute, our mission is to make advanced computational electromagnetics accessible to the global research and education community. Through our GPU-native simulation ecosystem and AI-enabled design tools, we aim to share cutting-edge technology, accelerate discovery, and cultivate a collaborative photonics community.
The EM Premium Education Program provides professors and students with complimentary access to Tidy3D, PhotonForge, and RF empowering next-generation research and education in photonics.
This initiative is designed as a win-win partnership: participants gain powerful tools, technical support, and visibility, while Flexcompute learns from real research challenges and strengthens an open, knowledge-sharing ecosystem.
What the Program Offers
Free Access to Tidy3D, including multiphysics solvers (FDTD, Mode, Heat, EME, Charge) and advanced capabilities such as adjoint inverse design, subpixel averaging, and sophisticated material modeling.
Free Access to PhotonForge, featuring the photonic canvas, PDK integrations, and component libraries for end-to-end design workflows.
Free Access to Flex RF, including a cloud-based, large-scale, GPU-accelerated FDTD solver and advanced capabilities such as adjoint inverse design, agentic workflows, and perfect boundary approximation.
Access to FlexAgent MCP for AI-assisted automated photonic simulation and design.
Permanent showcase URLs for selected work published in Tidy3D Learning Center, helping researchers share results and gain visibility within the photonics community.
Reduced Long-Term Costs, after the first year, license renewals may be waived annually based on sustained research activity, meaningful platform engagement, and collaborative contributions to the academic community.
Participant Commitments
We view participation as a collaborative partnership focused on community impact and mutual growth.
Active Platform Use
Participants integrate Tidy3D and PhotonForge into ongoing research projects and periodically share progress, feedback, and insights through review discussions.Research Publication and Knowledge Sharing
Participants publish high-quality research using our tools, typically producing one or more peer-reviewed papers per year. We encourage sharing simulation Python notebooks in the Tidy3D Community Library and citing them in related publications to support openness and community learning. See here for how to publish and cite.
Community Collaboration
Participants contribute authentic user experiences and collaborate with Flexcompute on case studies, seminars, testimonials, or educational content that highlight research advances and inspire the broader community.
How to Apply
To qualify for a waiver of the annual license fee for the first year, the research group's Principal Investigator (PI) should submit the application.
How to Renew
To qualify for a waiver of the annual license fee for next year's renewal, the research group's Principal Investigator (PI) should submit the renewal application 30 days before the license expiration date.

Professor
It’s amazing how fast the Flexcompute numerical solver runs. [...] This allows us to simulate many different random configurations, different system sizes, and different structural parameters to see whether we can get three-dimensional localization of light.”
Chaoshen
PhD student in Professor Evelyn Hu’s group
The Python API and the fast computation speed enabled by the Tidy3D server makes it easier for me to run parameter sweeping and start simulating ideas without the constraint of server time.
